The Book of Texas Days

The book was first published in 1985 and was republished in 2000. It offers vignettes from Texas history for every day of the year.
This paperback book begins on January 1, choosing an item from Texas history to showcase on that date in history. The years change to reflect a variety of decades of Texas history. Highlighted events begin in 1528 with the shipwreck of Cabeza de Vaca and continue through 1983 with Hurricane Alicia.
A few examples:
January 1, 1863 features the Battle of Galveston.
January 14, 1901 — the beginning of the campaign to save the Alamo.
June 9, 1894 — the first commercial oil field was drilled in Corsicana (they were hoping for water).
July 3, 1897 — Blind Lemon Jefferson was born
September 8, 1900 — the greatest natural disaster in American history occurred at Galveston. The hurricane killed 6,000-8,000 people.
November 26, 1864 — the Battle of Adobe Walls
